WEVC is pleased to offer a 12-month rotating equine internship. Positions are available starting in August and January and include rotations through our hospital, ambulatory service and our branch practice in Taupo. You will gain experience in the fields of anaesthesia, internal medicine, lameness and sports medicine rehabilitation, and imaging (radiology, ultrasonography and nuclear medicine). The program also includes time allocated gaining experience in stud medicine, yearling radiography and reproduction work during the season. The successful applicants will be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital cases as well as in-field ambulatory work, and will participate in a rostered, supervised after hour’s schedule.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced group of equine practitioners with a wide range of skills, including two board-certified surgeons. We have a large caseload of racing thoroughbreds, sport horses and stud clients.
Our focus is to give veterinarians in the early stages of their career, exposure to a wide variety of equine cases and establish excellent skills in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of conditions, in addition to building an excellent framework for general health care and management of individual horse owners and larger commercial operations.
One of the requirements for our roles is to gain full registration with the New Zealand Veterinary Council. This does limit those who we are able to consider unfortunately.
